Miami Summer Program

Sidley’s Miami office, founded in 2022, establishes our commitment to this dynamic, international city while also extending the firm’s accessibility to our clients in South Florida, Latin America, and beyond. Our diverse team of lawyers, many of whom are bilingual, provides the full suite of legal services to global businesses, including advising on matters involving complex commercial litigation, compliance and investigations, global finance, antitrust, international arbitration, privacy, commercial real estate, life sciences, venture capital, and restructuring.

Sidley has leased temporary space at 1001 Brickell Bay Drive where our over 46 Miami lawyers practice with more to come. The firm is set to move to the brand-new state-of-the-art 830 Brickell office tower in Miami’s Brickell Financial District.

The Miami office will offer a 10-week program for law students interested in one of the following areas of practice: complex commercial litigation, corporate M&A, and real estate. Being a part of the Miami office affords you the opportunity to work in a small, close-knit, and dynamic environment while enjoying the resources and support of a large global firm.

Work Assignments

The summer program will provide you with numerous opportunities to gain hands-on experience and demonstrate your skills through real client projects.

Transactional associates will be introduced to a variety of work involving mergers, acquisitions and divestitures; joint ventures; business restructurings; and other transactions, and get a firsthand look at how a deal team works, including the creative and practical solutions to issues and problems that arise in today’s complex financing and business environment.

Litigation associates will be given substantive assignments that range from deposition outlines and witness prep to drafting motions and briefs and may also get to see our lawyers in action by observing hearings and client meetings.

Professional Development

The Miami office focuses on the individual development of each of our summer associates by assigning partner mentors, as well as supervising mentors, to serve as a personal resource and sounding board.

Our summer training program will help you further develop your legal research, writing, networking, and other skills. You will have the opportunity to attend in-house CLE programs and local and firmwide education workshops. In addition, our summer associates will often attend locally sponsored networking events and in-person court hearings.

Summer Life in Miami

An important part of your experience is building relationships with your future colleagues. Throughout the summer, you will be invited to attend a variety of social and networking events, along with participating in office-wide programming. We give you a chance to get to know our lawyers and your fellow summers both professionally and personally while also experiencing all that Miami has to offer.

As a summer associate in Miami, your calendar might include activities like:

• Sampling the area’s famously diverse cuisine at lunches, happy hours, and dinners with associates and partners
